Kitchen Capacity Project: RES Success

Funded through the Community Group Funding Program

With a $1,500 grant, RES Success upgraded the kitchen at its Ferry Street day program in Martinez, replacing an undersized refrigerator with two commercial, locking units and installing a new trash can with a secure chute. The improvements addressed real, everyday needs for the adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities the program supports — proper food storage and safety, room for cooking and snack-time activities, and a safe way to manage food-seeking behaviors rooted in anxiety.

The impact has been tangible. Within just two months of the new equipment being in service, food-related incidents for one individual dropped by 25%, and staff expect that number to keep falling as routines settle in. The locking refrigerator has also made it possible to safely store items for a participant with strict medical dietary restrictions, while still giving others the freedom to choose their own snacks and drinks.

In 2025, RES Success's Ferry Street location alone provided over 4,300 days of service to Martinez residents — proof that even a modest grant can make a meaningful, lasting difference in daily quality of life.
